Pai Da, or Chinese Slapping Therapy, is a method of blood stasis and toxin removal employing a gentle “patting” technique, focusing particularly on the Eight Gates (between the armpit and elbow, groin and knee). Traditionally, the practitioners would use their bare hands to repeatedly slap along the Eight Gates to stimulate blood flow and open up blockages underneath the skin. Similar to scraping and fire cupping, the skin then removes the toxins through its natural processes.

Compared to scraping and fire cupping, Pai Da is the most effective method for releasing blood stasis. A short patting session can quickly generate light to dark bruising and redness in the treatment area; the darker the bruising, the more toxins are being released. While traditional practitioners use their bare hands, more contemporary Chinese healers will also use plastic or wooden paddles.
